Our Boston Terriers are all firstly registered/registrable with the American Kennel Club or the AKC. The American Kennel Club is the most known registry across the globe. Cypress Farm has long been an advocate for the AKC. http://www.akc.org
NOTE: Our pet only, spayed/neutered puppies are placed without registration papers unless otherwise noted. If registration papers are given with pet only puppies they will be of "LIMITED" status. Limited registration does not allow puppies born to a limited registered dog to be registered period. The limited registration papers for pet only puppies will not be signed over until verification of spay/neuter has been provided to Cypress Farm Kennel at 6 months of age of puppy. It has been our experience that there are two reasons that new families are concerned with registration. The papers are required for some form of verification of a puppies "purebred" status.
If full registration is wanted by the new owner, please contact us and ask when we may have a puppy available with full registration and begin a relationship with us required to obtain that full registration. Full registration/breeding rights prices begin at $2000 and increase depending on several factors. Inquire for more information.
Please realize that while some breeders may note that because their puppies or adults are AKC registered they are in fact a quality, healthy Boston Terrier thus proving the puppies must be. Do not be fooled. Make sure the breeder knows their dogs are healthy because they health test their Boston Terriers. Below is an excerpt on the subject from the AKC:
"There is a widely held belief that "AKC" or "AKC papers" guarantee the quality of a dog. This is not the case. AKC is a registry body. A registration certificate identifies the dog as the offspring of a known sire and dam, born on a known date. It in no way indicates the quality or state of health of the dog. Quality in the sense of "show quality" is determined by many factors including the dog's health, physical condition, ability to move and appearance. Breeders breeding show stock are trying to produce animals that closely resemble the description of perfection described in the breed standard. Many people breed their dogs with no concern for the qualitative demands of the breed standard. When this occurs repeatedly over several generations, the animals, while still purebred, can be of extremely low quality."
UCA
Our Boston Terriers are all secondly registered/registrable with the United Canine Association or the UCA. The United Canine Association is a relatively new registry. They are the very first registry to recognize the Colored Boston Terrier as it's own breed separate from the Boston Terrier, thus becoming the first registry to allow the conformation showing of the Colored Boston Terrier. We have taken a lot of heat from other breeders and fanciers of Boston Terriers traditional and colored alike. There have been neigh sayers disagreeing with any participation with the UCA, stating that it sheds a negative light on colors and the Boston Terriers. It is the opinion of Cypress Farm that we like engaging in activities with our standard Boston Terriers and colored Boston Terriers, together. Our standards will not take the spotlight as we hide our colors in the shadows. We believe that the Colored Boston Terriers, as pure as they are, should be allowed to take part in conformation classes under any registration. We also believe that a club should not run the registry. Our decision to register our dogs and show with the United Canine Association is a proud one. We support the Colored Boston Terriers and want them to be afforded the same opportunity as their standard counterparts.
